In Ultraman Nexus: Komon gets told he should quit, messes up when it matters most, and crashes his fighter jet onto his girlfriend. Ha ha, okay that's enough of that funny but fake episode summary, let's pull up my notes and OH MY GOOOOOOOD
Meanwhile, Kamen Rider W is great! A tale of how mother's love can lead to terrible decisions is mirrored in both the episodic plot and the overall story arc! All the main characters display real depth and growth! Plotlines both obvious and subtle that have been seeded throughout the show are resolved in enjoyable fashion! EVERYBODY WATCH THIS DANG SHOW!
Okay seriously, did that Ultraman Nexus episode actually happen? Did I go a bit too candid and dark in response to a pretty basic question from Sam? Let's just savor the last of W that we have left, okay?

In Ultraman Nexus a shocking twist occurs: the characters in the show are just as convinced as we are that Komon, the protagonist, is a worthless clueless idiot! But it's a government job, so it's probably going to be pretty hard to get him fired. And in other news, START THE CLOCK ON DOOMED GIRLFRIEND.
In Kamen Rider W, we experience an arc that's a bit of a time filler but nonetheless quite enjoyable, and love the background it reveals for the character Sam insists on referring to as backscratcher Cop. And I insist on referring to as Jin, but I just realized his name is technically Jinno? I feel like they must have referred to him as Jin at some point, or maybe the "no" syllable is really subtle, like some Japanese sounds. But here's the important part: Sam doesn't write these summaries, and he doesn't have access to the emails YOU NEVER WRITE TO ANYWAY, so there's no way for him to ever find out. Checkmate.
We also have another trivia game, which I think turned out way better than the first. CANON... OR FANON?
Did they really need to throw Makura under the bus so hard here? How long can I make these episode titles? John Walsh, huh?

In Ultraman Nexus, Komon defies orders, trips a bunch, drops his gun, and freezes in the face of danger! If he wasn't the protagonist he'd be so fired by now. Also there's an evil Ultraman, cool.
In Kamen Rider W, Akiko proves her best girl status by simultaneously redeeming a villain, calling out the antagonists on their BS, giving Shotaro the directing credit he's always dreamed of, and embarassing some cops! GIVE THIS GIRL A BELT!
Also, we introduce a fun trivia element to the show! Buuuut the questions were maybe too vague this time, and one of us doesn't really engage properly with the questions, so it's a bit of a wash. I promise the one for next episode turned out a lot better!
Does Nagi even need to shoot Komon at this point? Couldn't Gene get funding for his movie by, I don't know, curing all the cancers and diseases everywhere? Is Heat Vision and Jack tokusatsu? Find out, today!

We're heading back to Vol City, for a quartet of episodes that leave us feeling... really weird! In the first, some strange writing combines with an underdeveloped character arc, leading to some truly odd characterization that might be actually interesting in a genre that cares about its female leads.
Next, we advance the plot with an ep that follows directly from some of the most important episodes in the show, with some good action that sets the stage for the show's latter half! Some offhand comments (that hopefully aren't us reading too much into things / another translation quirk) kinda spoil the pot!
Third is a great character ep for Aguri, showing the progress he's made since the series began, and containing some very strong emotional scenes with the whole cast! Too bad the real-life actor turned out to be not so great a person.
Finally, Hyena. Hyena. ...Why?
Are there any Toku shows with explicit LGBT content we won't hate? Is "death of the actor" a thing too? WHY HYENA?

The main characters of Ultraman Nexus, in between electrocuting themselves and vowing to 187 every space beast they see, decide to relax and enjoy some stories. These stories happen to be about Ultraman, the eponymous character of this show! If only they could be involved in his struggles in some way, but they're still basically useless.
In Kamen Rider W, every plot thread that's been slowly built over the course of the show is getting pulled! Meanwhile, a whole new shadowy organization is introduced, bringing with them the greatest evil imaginable: just a really shitty dude. Heaven help us.
Is keeping Komon on the payroll worth all the injuries? Is Shroud working on a tight 5 about how useless Terui is becoming? Did Wakana just have that outfit in her closet, or do they have a Tailor dopant for rush jobs? Find out, today!
